Made in Germany Descaler, what's good enough for industrial use is good enough for the home

NOTE. This device will not work if your water contains more than 1 ppm iron or 0.1 ppm manganese. The device is not waterproof and must be covered if the temperature does not exceed 55 degrees C. Temperature peaks on water heating elements should not exceed 95 degrees C (limescale deposits on hot surfaces such as kettles). Treated water should be drained or re-treated within 2 days (areas of stagnant water, such as humidifiers and bog coolers, will develop limescale). This device is not a water softener. This is a descaler. It converts lime dissolved in water into lime crystals. Limescale crystals wash away with water and appear as a fine powder that is easier to wipe off, instead of the stony limescale deposits of untreated water. The conversion of dissolved lime into lime crystals produces carbon dioxide, which becomes carbonic acid in the water. Carbonic acid gently dissolves hard deposits in pipes. The purified water lasts about 2-7 days and then reverts to its untreated state, requiring draining or repurification within that period. This product is designed to help reduce limescale build-up. Instructions: Wrap the two impulse cables tightly in two cylindrical sleeves around the pipe. There should be no gaps between the wraps, but the two impulse cables should be at least 1/2 inch apart on the pipe. The device is suitable for metal or plastic pipes with a diameter of up to 1.5 inches. Choose the program for your pipe type (metal or plastic) and size (up to 1" or up to 1.5"). This is how I understand how the device works: A modulated voltage is applied to the wires to induce a modulated electric field. in water. Water, which is a dipolar molecule, oscillates due to the changing electric field. Water molecules form a cage around Ca ions and HCO3 ions, but due to vibration, the cage breaks and Ca reacts with HCO3 to form CaCO3 (crystallized lime) and CO2. CO2 forms carbonic acid in water. The carbonic acid then dissolves the lime deposits in the pipes and the crystallized lime is simply washed off with water. The product is manufactured by Christiani Wassertechnik in Germany. They make larger versions of this product for industrial use (hotels, food processing, air conditioning, etc.). Industrial versions are sold under the Vulcan brand. Residential versions are sold under the Calmat brand.
