This ascot is a deep burgundy/black as described. Bought for my husband for my mother's wedding. He stayed in place all night without unbuttoning. My only downside was the material gets you very hot when you dance or move for hours because it's thicker and it wasn't extremely breathable polyester to dance over, but for the price I can't expect the highest quality fabric. . If it's just for dinner, you might not have any problems at all. All in all it was very pretty and came in a pretty box with a tissue.
