I have been using my computer for several years to control an Orion Atlas mount via a USB to serial converter connected to a handheld controller. It worked as a "SkyWatcher" tool via ASCOM but never properly with EQMOD. Moving the crosshair was enough, but I couldn't use the EQMOD alignment or other features. I saw this $15 cable and thought it was too good to be true, but at that price I could afford to be wrong. It wasn't there :). I already had the latest ASCOM and EQMOD installed on my laptop, as well as the FTDI chipset driver for my other oscilloscope cable, so when I plugged it in it just worked. All I had to do was find the serial port (6 in my case) and tell EQMOD to use the HEQ5/6 driver and voila. Testing the sight for speed has shown that every feature works exactly as expected. Now I have the ability to use the gamepad to rotate, I can use N-point pointing and all my other programs like PHD2 and Cartes du Ciel work as before (mostly - I had an interesting problem when CDC added stellar reality to seemed to disable). Tracking sometimes - I haven't debugged that yet).
