Misleading claims about this product: 1. It may not be waterproof - the holes where the wires enter are completely unsealed and allow water to pass through. It is water resistant and will only spill water when installed in an upright position (cable down). However, moisture still penetrates through the large wire openings.2. The metal contacts are not tinned copper like most high quality marine electrical fittings. The metal contacts are (poorly) galvanized mild steel. I say poor plating because the zinc plating was peeling off the contact parts when I received them. Zinc plating is BAD for marine environments and causes oxidation which can increase resistance at the contacts and potentially cause heat build-up and fire. While the case is made of durable plastic, it's not fireproof plastic. Quality electrical fittings use phenolic resins that will not melt or burn under normal conditions. I was able to easily light the plastic case with a butane lighter in a matter of seconds. Non-flame retardant plastics and bare copper contacts mean this product can corrode, heat up and melt, or catch fire. This will NOT happen in my boat. I threw mine away, although it might be useful for low-power internal DC circuits.
