Review on πŸͺ’ FaTip Grande Double Edge Safety Razor - Nichelato by Aleksandre Crane

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nickel Plated Strippable after 3 shaves (photos included)

I bought this razor as a replacement for my RazoRock Jaws which requires too much fiddling to get the blade aligned and also as an alternative to Vintage Gillette. NEW OCs that become too expensive and often cause problems. Fatip Grande shaves great and is everything I hoped for! There is a bit of wiggle room in the blade but it aligns easily and I have no issues with this part. The reason I'm giving this 3 stars instead of 5 is because of the absolutely terrible coverage! If they were Merkur razors or any Zamak metal razors they would have been sent back by now. However, since it's brass AND I was able to get one that aligns the blade well, I'm hoping I can contact the manufacturer Fatip (Pafaro I think) and just get a replacement cap. If not I can return it or just drop off the rest of the nickel plate and use it as a brass razor. The grip also has plating issues, but instead of flaking, there was a pair of sharp, needle-like chrome protrusions. I removed them from a piece of marble so everything works fine now. Coating issues aside, this razor really delivers a great shave. It's on the more aggressive side, but surprisingly smooth. I think it's close but definitely more aggressive than Gillette's NEW OC Vintage Razor and on par with RazoRock Jaws. It may actually be more aggressive than Jaws BUT it's smoother so it's hard to tell. By the way, the Jaws grip can work with the Fatip Grande, but the Grande grip doesn't fit the Jaws. In addition, the blades in the Fatip have a significantly shorter lifespan. isn't a deal breaker and maybe I just need more experience with it, but it's something to consider, so expect a shave or two less per blade. For $25 this could be a great razor, although at QC it's a bit of a lottery. If Fatip/Pafaro offered the ALL Brass option, that would be the best option of all. PICTURES: I have had the Fatip Grande for less than 2 weeks and the photos were taken a week ago after my third shave. These images have not been retouched, but the microscope photos are only 640 x 480. Peeling occurs only on the top cap, with a large flake falling off the top surface and around the edge where the cap contacts the razor blade.
