High-quality material, but not *too* thick. I'm 5ft 7" and these socks fit me mid-thigh. It's a stretchy material and they're snug, but not to the point where I have sausage legs. For reference, my hip measurement is about 19 inches or so. I suspect that if they are over 20 inches in circumference, they might be too tight. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and I love that they come in all three colors.
