I volunteer at the historic railroad. I often haul building materials in the back of my truck or tow lumber or sleeper trailers. These ratchet straps are essential when moving things. No matter how well you pack something, the first punch or twist will loosen your load if you don't strap it down. Ratchets are made of plated steel and are easy to use; You can stretch a load of wood or sleepers far enough so that the load does not move. The orange color is clearly visible, which makes it easier to work with. The S-hooks on the other end of the straps have a clip to close them so they don't accidentally come loose while you're tightening the straps. (This has happened to me many times with other types of belts.) The manufacturer says the breaking strength is around 1800 pounds, but I would never load anything to that level. If I had a 2000lb load I would use all four straps to get good accuracy. I would estimate that the maximum usable force of each belt is between 600 and 700 pounds. The carry bag that comes with it is handy for me to store and hide behind the seat.
