Review on πŸ”§ Chrome Precision Base Plate for Intricate Thinlits by Sizzix - Multicolor Option by Barbara Simmons

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Clean cuts without imprints on the cards!

Before purchasing the Precision Chrome Base Plate, I had the original Thin Matrix Precision Metal Base Plate (black). The new version has been improved in a very important way. Even though they're both the same size (10 x 6.125 inches are the same thickness), the new chrome precision plate precisely cuts even 110# cardstock with complex die-cuts, usually in just ONE pass! And what amazes me is that even after hundreds of cuts, NO MARK/PRINTS are left on the surface of the chrome plate even though the dies and plate are put through a high pressure die cutting machine! This plate was delivered to me on December 24th, 2018 and I put it to work immediately. Since then I've been using it almost every day (that's 6 days to 6 months) and the photos in this review were taken TODAY. Here are some features you may not know about this plate (so you can choose WHEN you want to use it): β€’ It's only for complex dies, not for more open dies. You may be thinking, what's wrong with that? But read on. β€’ Once you use that tile with a particular die, you pretty much have to commit to using that tile with that die for the lifetime of that die. Why? Because with this chrome there is NO "recoil”. So when that much pressure is applied for that clean cut, the edge of your steel will dull a bit. This is not a problem for me. I mean hey I bought this to have my intricate die cutting through cardboard. You NEED this plate to make it easier. Why shouldn't I use it? β€’ If you ignore Sizzix's warning to use only with complex matrices, your open matrices, let's say framed matrices, will most likely end up deformed (bent in the middle due to pressure). If you accidentally do this (my fault) you can just (gently) bend your thin plates straight. β€’ This plate is not intended for use with the magnetic platform that many of us use and love. Photo #3 shows the platter sitting on a magnetic platform where a 1.125 inch platter bar is visible. So if you put them together, you can easily separate them by grabbing the longer part and twisting it in a horizontal-parallel plane. with platform. Why can't you use it with a magnetic base? According to some users, this can reduce the lifespan of your inserts (again, due to their deformation). Did I connect this chrome plate to a magnetic platform? Yes. Are my cutting blades bent? Yes. Have my stamps been damaged? It remains to be seen. (I just didn't know this information when I bought this record, and now I do. I thought I'd pass it on to you.) β€’ This record is not compatible with Big Shot Foldaway or Big Shot Plus. Just a note. As far as functionality goes, I wouldn't even attempt to cut a complex matrix without this plate. You need this plate in your stash if you have stamps with a lot of intricate cutouts. Brands like Tattered Lace, Couture Creations, etc. (Note: if you want to cut MULTIPLE dies at once, I need even more muscle than this record. When cutting multiple complex dies individually or multiple dies in one pass, I rely on my gemini- Punching Machine (It cuts like butter!) I hope this information helps you with your purchasing decision. I would definitely recommend. Happy crafting!
