I have been using this type of picture hanger for over 50 years and have never had a problem. As long as the hook size fits the weight of the object, they have never let me down. I have an antique flat glass mirror that probably weighs around 40 pounds. I use two of the largest hanging hooks and have never had any problems. Two loops are attached to the back of the mirror that go through the hooks. Because they are firmly attached to the mirror, the hooks must be in the correct position on the wall before hanging the mirror. It takes a bit of measuring to get everything right, but once that's done the mirror comes up with no problems. These hooks work well on drywall or plaster (stick a piece of tape to plaster walls and drive a nail through the tape - prevents chipping) as well as wood. Over the last few years I've started using Command® products to hang some of my lighter work as this way I avoid punching holes in the walls. It makes it easier to rearrange things when I want to. But for things that require strong support, these hooks are what you need.
