This is a genuine part. If you buy a cable from Shimano it should come with one of the correct size caps. But heaven help you if you drop it, bugs are small and run and hide. Having a pack of 100 means you can find it, but it's not the end of the world if you can't find it. (Or if you need to adjust the cable and the end cap falls off. It's easier to fit a new one than to open and reattach the old one. A little wire nail and a little patience and it can be done, but seriously, my time is worth more, and the second press usually breaks the end cap.The third press is direct.
