Perfect replacement for Shimano 105 shift cable ends.

Didn't need 100 but worked to buy this set. The one the local bike shop fitted to my derailleur cable came from the Shimano 105 shifter and fitted perfectly. I used a vise to press the cap onto the derailleur cable. I might sell a few 10's on eBay to cover the cost as I didn't need that many.

Find the right size shifter cables

I've only ever used the big end caps that are made for brake cables on shifter cables because they gave them to me at the bike shop. They're a little messy when crimped because they're so much larger than a shifter cable. Once you have the right size, crimping is best. These plugs are so cheap that I stock both the smaller ones for the shifter cables and the larger ones for the brake cables. I don't think Shimano end caps are anything special compared to other brands, just make sure you are the

The best deal on these end caps is to buy in bulk.

This is a genuine part. If you buy a cable from Shimano it should come with one of the correct size caps. But heaven help you if you drop it, bugs are small and run and hide. Having a pack of 100 means you can find it, but it's not the end of the world if you can't find it. (Or if you need to adjust the cable and the end cap falls off. It's easier to fit a new one than to open and reattach the old one. A little wire nail and a little patience and it can be done, but seriously, my time is worth…

High-quality silver caps for brake and shift cables.

These are simple aluminum tubes, closed at one end and open at the other, with a small protruding ring around the open end. Sure, you can buy cheaper no-name end caps, but they work very well, just as well on brake or shifter cables. The aluminum is soft enough to get a good grip on the end of the cable and the opening is large enough that you don't have to force the cable in. I like the fact that they are long enough to be crimped in two places for extra security. Because it's annoying when…

Wrong size fits best shift and brake cables

Y62098030 Cable caps come in two cellophane packs of 50. in the box. On the Shimano website, these caps are referred to as "INNER CABLE SWITCH CAP". There are no sizes or specs listed on the Shimano website. I measured the inside diameter of the cap and it is 1.81mm (0.071 inch). They will easily fit a 1.2 mm (0.047 in) shift cable. 1.5 mm (0.059 in) brake cable in good condition but with different diameter. I tried these cable caps on my old bike that has Avid Single Digit Ultimate…

Those that can be used for cycling

Genuine Shimano connectors outperform most regular connectors, I'm not kidding. I used to buy cheap bags but stopped doing that many years ago. The best caps have thicker walls and better fit the cable dimensions. This helps avoid crooked end caps, wire cutters actually cutting into cables, or cables getting pinched in the end caps. Good caps even look like a piece with a nice lip where the cable goes in (this also helps with handling). Of course, it is important to distinguish between the…
