My review here focuses on issues that I would like more information on before purchasing (and which other reviewers have not properly addressed at the time of writing). My overall impression of the monitor is that it is excellent. I'm glad I got it. It cost money. What follows is my report on features and issues I would like more information on before purchasing. Cover -------- This monitor comes with one of two possible covers. Customers have no say in which of the two they get. This is on the Revain store page but I confess I didn't realize this when I bought it and was disappointed with the case I received. I was looking forward to the leather case in the photos of some of the other reviews. This is not what I received. The case I received looks a lot cheaper. It's functional but not impressive. And since there's no option to buy another cap, and there aren't any other caps on the aftermarket, no matter which cap you buy, you're going to be stuck. Pretty disappointing if you care at all about the aesthetics of the cover. The cover is magnetic. It attaches to the back of the monitor and doesn't require much adjustment to be flush with the monitor. The lid comes off with a slight tug and is just as easy to put back on. It holds the monitor perfectly in widescreen mode, but needs to be removed to use the monitor in portrait mode. The cover is designed to effectively protect the screen from friction. But there's actually no padding on the lid. If you're looking for something to protect your monitor while traveling, you probably need to treat yourself to an extra soft case. Portrait Mode --------------------- ----I was particularly interested in using this monitor in portrait mode and was a little worried about the monitor's stability in portrait mode . The monitor has a hole in the bottom left corner (bottom right in portrait orientation). Overall, if you place a decently thick stylus, the monitor can stand in portrait mode with no extras. I was very pleased to discover that this is indeed a perfectly working solution to drive a portrait display. It doesn't look very pretty, but it offers a very comfortable viewing angle for the monitor that's unattainable with a stand or monitor mount. It's also pretty stable. It'll likely fall during an earthquake, but with most normal table hits, it's stable enough not to be a cause for concern. So if you plan on using this monitor in portrait mode, if you can stomach the look of a monitor stand with a handle in the hole, I highly recommend this monitor. The only other way to keep the monitor standing upright is to mount it on a wall or stand. The only real downside to the portrait mode is that all of the monitor's buttons are on the side. the monitor, which will be the bottom of the monitor when placed in portrait mode. This can lead to accidental button presses when moving the monitor. It also means that you cannot easily access these buttons. Cable management and cable aesthetics --------------------------------- ------------ -- ---- -------------- The real selling point for this monitor, which either wasn't advertised, or at least wasn't advertised prominently enough for me to see before I buy it, is the fact that it can be used with just one USB-C cable for both power and signal. This would require a device that can transmit both power and signals over USB-C. The latest generation MacBooks can do this. So I can use one cable per device, which is very, very nice. I don't need an outlet or extra power cords coming out of the unit. If you don't have a device that can output video and power over a single USB-C cable, you'll need at least two cables. constantly connected to this thing. One is required for video input (HDMI or USB C). Another is needed to power the device. One more important note: if you use it in portrait mode, the cables will stick straight up into the air. Looks really sticky. And it's worth noting that it's hard to find angled USB-C cables that can output video. So expect a little eyesore from protruding cables when using this. Display quality ---------- The display works with a resolution of 1080p. Image quality is roughly on par with other 1080p monitors in the mid-to-low range. If you're used to high-end displays, you won't be blown away by this. But it's hard to imagine anyone being disappointed with what they get here, especially at this price point. This is a solid looking display. Overall Impression ------------- I am very pleased with this item. My only real complaints are aesthetic. (I don't like the protruding cable. I find the stand handle in portrait format ugly. I find the housing ugly.) Functionally, the thing is excellent. It works with a single USB-C cable and sits at a high angle in portrait mode. It has a solid picture and doesn't cause any problems. I would have no hesitation in recommending this monitor to anyone interested in a portable monitor.
