Great functionality for the money for young learning up front.

So far it seems an excellent product for the money. My 5 year old would love to have it. He can load it himself and then wait for the food. He hasn't hit many pitches yet, but that's the idea. I think it could also be useful for older kids if they don't have access to a machine that can throw real balls. Speed will not challenge older hitters. I tested it with three different types of whiffing balls. The included balls (lighter, no holes) - compared to the slightly thicker ball with holes (purchased from Dick) - compared to some of the stronger and more flexible Precision Impact balls. The Precision Impact balls were extremely inconsistent (maybe they compress too easily). Of the other two, the original balls provided proved to be more stable (small sample size). I didn't hold the base of the machine and the recoil was minimal. I shot the balls in the flattest trajectory the machine is capable of. The video was recorded with fresh batteries in a fresh machine that has just been removed from the shipping box.

Cons
  • Easy maintainability
