Review on Gates Premium Engine Water Pump 43513 by Jeff Davidson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Mine came broken and dented.

Water pump arrived rough. Must be packed before sending as the shipping box was in perfect condition. The water pump had a dent and a microcrack on one side. Not sure everyone would have caught this damage. My son thought it looked good and luckily I checked it out before we started taking the car apart. Another week without a car for him, but at least we didn't fix the damaged pump. We hope the replacement arrives in usable condition. Update: The second pump arrived in good condition. I should note that this pump included a metal water pump seal just like the OEM part. No paper as some have claimed. The cast finish of this China-made pump doesn't come close to the OEM finish. The OEM casting also has more ribs for support. This casting holds the lower toothed tensioner for the timing belt, so its failure will cause the engine to stall. UPDATE: This water pump failed after 78,000 miles and 6 years of use. Basically, I'm now forced to service the timing belt system 27,000 miles before the recommended service interval. These Gates kits had to be OEM quality. I should have bought a Subaru water pump and saved myself the trouble.

Pros
  • Faithful to original equipment specifications and requirements
Cons
  • Vulgarity
