Pass this on 3D printer extruder

Edit 2: Completely stopped working and started returning. Not even half a spool of thread was enough. Same problem as others when chewing aluminum. A shoulder bolt or roller bearing inner sleeve is required on the second gear for reliable operation of this design. Edit: It's been less than a week and the aluminum shavings from the tensioner have already eaten into the underside of the arm. You'll know when to start, you'll hear a quick pop as the gear catches on the aluminum and breaks off a piece. They could have added a steel pad to protect the aluminum, but that might cost a dime. If you don't want to fix a design flaw, get a simple metal single gear to upgrade your CR10/Ender. This is made for a CR10 with an input jack, there is not enough room at the end to screw it in. due to the lead screw Z. Without modifying the inlet to accept a length of Bowden tubing, loading the filament would be a real problem due to the increased size of the hole. I didn't have two long screws so I had to dig through the trash can. This also adds some noise to the printer since you now have 2 metal gears. It works once but don't know how long it lasts, on the bolt that holds the lever for a bolt this size, lots of tension, height and tension will certainly cause that bolt to bend a bit. I suspect this is causing the gear to cut into the aluminum as others have reported. I think time will tell. Don't forget to match the E stages on your Ender, if you get one increase mine to 138 as the gearing is smaller.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
