Review on Giottos AA1903 Rocket Air Blaster - Large Red by Kenneth Wood

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Essential accessory for DSLR

The Giotto fan works very well. You never want to stick the attachment into a camera sensor or lens, and you can actually squeeze this device tight and it doesn't tend to move toward the lens or sensor. I'm a little confused by the design. , However. When you squeeze the balloon, the check valve on the bottom air inlet closes and air exits the nozzle. When you release the balloon, air will enter through the nozzle and bottom air inlet to inflate the balloon. What is the bottom air intake for? Why not just fill the bottle through the nozzle? This device does not filter the air you blow into the camera body or lens. The force of the airflow can knock particles out of the sensor and lens, but it can shoot out new dust particles to replace them. Maybe new dust that gets inside doesn't stick because of the moving air? What I really want is for this device to direct filtered air into the camera or lens. I accomplish this by placing a few layers of flannel fabric over the bottom air intake and securing them with an elastic band. Because air can enter the bulb through the bottom inlet or nozzle, I close the nozzle with my finger when I release the bulb. This is a clumsy step that is not entirely possible with one hand while the other hand must be holding the camera or lens. But it can be done. What the unit really needs is a check valve on both the bottom air intake and the nozzle so that air only enters through the bottom and only exits through the nozzle. This is complemented by a filter above the lower air intake. Until Giotto or someone makes these improvements I can live with this device.
