After my 5-year-old daughter learned to pronounce most of the letters, we began going through Bob's books, beginning with sentence 1. Our tradition was that she read the story (almost) every night before when i read something her (sometimes I'd make her reread what she'd read before, or let her off when she was really tired - I wanted it to be positive). The books start out very easy and progress very slowly. After about 8 months we have read all the books and now she can handle the easy level 1-2 reading on her own. Learning to read is a major achievement, and these books help parents guide their children in that direction in a systematic way and at their own pace. I highly recommend everyone to go through the entire series and then pass the books on to someone else!
