Review on πŸ”§ Barker Manufacturing Co. 31340 Universal Slidewinder: A Reliable Solution for Versatile Sliding Operations by Philip Breeze

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great idea (really works!) but the locking button could be a bit sturdier and longer.

Four stars instead of five because while this is a great idea it was designed and built with some flaws. First, there are three basic positions for pole planting, namely: all the way down, about halfway up, and a top high enough (less than an inch from the top of the pole) that the inner pole can easily fold over. or wobble, and the little tip, stopping in slots cut in the outer tube, could (and does) detach from our simulated wind torque and slam into the ground, putting a heavy load on your slide-outs immediately. Imagine if they made it short enough to fit in the corner of the outer bar behind the button with no springs.) Second, the bottom and top panels are a bit flimsy. IMHO they should be either 3/16" or 1/4". Finally, the small rod that runs through the shafts and pivots to lower or raise the top plate is best served by a large nut attached to a threaded bolt that raises or lowers the top. (If you turned it and the little knob slipped into the groove you could seriously injure your hand. I set mine to the lowest position and pre-set it to 4" x 4" x 16" blocks It definitely reduces the sway and bounce in the caravan!

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
