I wish I had found this much sooner! Both of my kids have been sleeping in a backpack for months and I always wince a bit when I put them on that horrible mattress excuse that's more like a plank with bubble wrap over it. Yes. This is such a big improvement! It's quite soft so I wouldn't recommend it for very young children due to the increased risk of choking, but for older children who can't get comfortable on a cardboard mattress this is a great option! It is super soft and feels very comfortable. It arrives vacuum packed and reassembles its roof within hours. Only criticism is that it's fluffed up unevenly. There are two distinct bulges all over the mattress that would bother me if I were to sleep on it. I'm not sure if my kids would be interested in this, but it annoys me. Otherwise it's great!
