Review on πŸ”’ Enhanced Safety of Andersen Mfg Ultimate Connection by Ryan Turner

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Used bad restraints.

Although I know they are not required in most states I bought them. It is better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. They are well made and would have gotten 5 stars without two complaints. 1. Shackles from China. Where I worked we were not allowed to use Chinese braces because of the many documented errors. We have literally destroyed hundreds of Chinese shackles so no one can use them. Shame on Andersen, an American company that advertises "Made in the USA" and uses cheap Chinese shackles in their safety gear. 2. 3/8" shackles have a Working Load Limit (WLL) of 1 ton with a 6 to 1 safety factor. So that's 12,000 pounds at best. If ever needed, it will be shock loaded. This is far from the best scenario. Why advertise 24000lb chain strength and not mention the shackle's weak link. I hope their Andersen Ultimate hitch is better designed than this. Edit: I'm changing to 4 stars because I Ordered an Andersen 3248 - Ultimate Connection security chain plate and it came with 2 1/2" quick release links rated for 3300lbs WLL and 10,000 breaking strength. Much better than 3/8 shackles. From what I understand the shackles were just that For beauty's sake, so you won't get a ticket in states that require safety chains, but why have safety chains when they're bound to break if you ever need them?

Pros
  • They have been road tested and meet all the requirements of modern safety chains.
Cons
  • No Instructions
