Mikasa Berlin glasses are absolutely beautiful. I've never actually owned crystal glasses - we only drink wine occasionally, so I can usually get a set of 6 for $14.99 from one of the wholesalers and then replace them as needed (usually quite often since my family is quite picky about glassware seems to be in general and wine glasses in particular). So, I have a hodgepodge of various inexpensive glasses. I recently bought new dishes and linens for the upcoming holidays, so I was thrilled to see these cute jars. The glass is very thin (surprisingly thin) and while I know crystal glasses are quite strong, they strike me as very fragile. I will probably only bring them for the holidays and other special occasions. They have an open bell shape and I find the thin stripes very elegant. The stem is thin but not too long, and the base is wide enough in diameter that these goggles don't feel heavy and tip over easily. These wine glasses will look beautiful on a festively decorated table. At 17 ounces this is quite a large wine glass and storing a set like this takes up a lot of space which is worth considering for those not expecting. They're really too good to put away, but I know they'll never survive in my regular glass cabinet. Originally I was going to keep them in a box on the top shelf of my closet, but the box is too big. I also ordered a set of white wine glasses and champagne glasses so I need to find a storage solution. Now that I'm in the know (ha ha) I might check out one of those upside down cup coasters. The glasses arrived very well packaged to protect them from breakage, but the box isn't quite right for a gift - it's for safe transport, not the optics. Each pair of glasses has a black Mikas sticker - mine came off easily, thank goodness. There's also an embossed Mikasa logo on the base, which some might not like, but I can't say it bothers me that much. I know this brand and their reputation for quality. In fact, I have many items from their Christmas collection that I have collected over the years. A set of four wine glasses costs $44.99 and isn't as fancy as I thought it would be. I would still consider this a fairly expensive purchase but I know real crystal is expensive given the quality of the glasses. In my opinion, the glass and processing of these glasses are worth their money.
