Review on πŸ“· TheiaPro Eyeglasses Camera (Black) with App Connectivity for Enhanced Capability in Recording by Brad Knierim

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Poor camera quality and poorly designed user interface

I gave these to my son to test out as he has been looking for a GoPro for a while and they serve the same purpose: let him take photos and videos hands free while hiking, which he does quite often. However, Gopro is more or less obsolete due to its graduation gift DJI Phantom 3 Standard Quadcopter Aircraft with 3-axis gimbal and 2.7k camera with remote control. He's not particularly impressed by this for a number of reasons. The camera itself is not very good. 3 MP with small sensor (and lens). You also cannot control many functions of the camera and you can control them through the app. He also considered this to be a bad implementation. Plus, having to use a tablet or phone to control it means it's not hands-free, and using the device as a viewfinder also means you're taking photos with your tablet or phone. And as long as you keep your camera or phone, why not just use it? (He probably has a better camera). I hope I can attach a photo as a demonstration of the quality issues. There's barrel distortion, blur (because the shutter isn't very fast) and the color balance isn't very good and can only be adjusted through post-processing (like in Photoshop). As someone who has some experience designing and building mobile cameras (for his HS robotics team that traveled to the FRC World Championships). He thought it was just bad design if the on/off button and the function button are the same. It would have been fairly easy to turn off the glasses when switching from stills to video. None of us can understand why we got the message after 1 photo that the SD card (32g) was full. The build quality is not very good. The glasses it's mounted on are about the same quality as a $5 pair of sunglasses sold on the street. However, my son looks like he stepped out of a 1950s sci-fi movie in it (and if he would let me post a photo I would, but he won't ;) The camera was blown during the Usage also very hot (after only a few minutes). That doesn't bode well in terms of durability. In general, the camera is not very good. Implementation isn't great, and the need for a tablet or phone (to use as a viewfinder *and* to set up/control the camera) means it's not exactly hands-free, plus you're probably better off keeping the camera in yours phone or tablet on. Considering the price my son thought 2 stars maybe a bit high. At that price you can get some pretty decent little cameras (talk like one with two Panasonics with Leica lenses that together cost less). All in all, the gimmick factor is greater than the benefit. Poor quality camera with poorly designed user interface.

Pros
  • Best in the niche
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
