I am very interested in the correct filtration of air and water, as they are one of the most important elements for our physical existence, but without water we live much longer than without air. We breathe in new air every few seconds, which is then filtered by our lungs. First let me say that most air filter manufacturers don't really provide much scientific detail or testing on how their system works other than a basic description of the stages and they are all pretty much the same in a different package, not that much research has been done on proper airflow , powerful quiet motors, scientifically correct placement and quantity/quality of filter material, proper insulation to avoid dirty air ducts through holes and cracks in the frame, etc. After long and thorough research I have decided to choose between AirIQ and Blueair. After contacting AirIQ with some scientific questions, first impression was that their support staff are overworked and in a hurry to answer your questions, and secondly, AirIQ ships their cartridges with filter material exposed to air what is not good. It is a fact that charcoal and other filter media will readily absorb contaminants from the atmosphere if not properly sealed before they reach you, prematurely reducing the capacity/life of the filter media. Also, their tech department didn't know how to answer my questions and didn't call back. I was completely discouraged by her energy and lack of knowledge. Now that I called Blueair support it was like a breath of fresh air. They were patient, genuine, explained their system in detail, and directed me to a scientific but easy-to-understand video on their website that made the difference in choosing them over AirIQ: [.] I also used a laser particle. a counter from Dylos measuring down to 0.5 microns (beach sand is about 100 microns), which is a fairly accurate and near real-time particle analysis, well below the 2 p.m. standard. After measuring the air in my bedroom, I found over 1,000 particles smaller than 2:50 p.m., I closed the door and window, and cranked this system into overdrive. Within 10 minutes, the number of ultrafine particles dropped to 200, and after 30 minutes to 70. Remember, these are bacteria-sized particles that cannot be seen with the naked eye! This filter really works to remove ultrafine particles quickly! Also, in addition to their HepaSilent technology, they use special coconut shell activated charcoal (the best charcoal for absorbing volatile chemicals) which is further enhanced by impregnation with magnesium and copper to break down difficult chemicals much more effectively. Most other filters I've seen use regular activated carbon and very little of it. Looking back at how much I've spent on cheap and poorly designed filters in the past, I should have just bought this one, but then again, I had to go through that learning curve with lower units to see the value of this product. They also offer a decent 5 year guarantee if you register your product with them. It would have been better if the device was actually made in Sweden and not China, but still the build quality and materials look and feel good, the warranty is reassuring and the performance is backed up by my particle counter. Overall I am very satisfied with the product. Quality, efficiency, design and customer service. First class company with first class products! BlueAir, I hope you continue on this path, stay true to true scientific principles and don't go public (don't sell to investors for more profit), stay loyal to your customers and you'll be in business for generations!
