Works well with my Sony Blu Ray player.
I don't know the functionality of the original because the player didn't have it, it was an open purchase and I couldn't overlook the price. It's the perfect solution as it's not as expensive as a stock unit and all the features work. No setup was required, I put the batteries in and it worked right away. Good business. Just make sure it's compatible with your model and you're in good shape.
