I have naturally thick 4a/4b hair. I take great care of my hair and don't use heat often, but I blow dry my hair 3-4 times a year to trim and detangle. This dryer is effective yet gentle. I use the low setting with the occasional puff of cool air and my hair is straightened but not straightened - just what I'm comfortable with. In fact, I'm so confident in the minimal heat damage from this hair dryer that I won't be afraid to trim my hair more often (which I really SHOULD do). Pulling, tearing or breaking hair. For me, this is a win over everything (I also love the packaging and the look of this dryer).
