I love this camera!

I love this camera! I'm just a beginner who finally decided to take the plunge and get myself a DSLR. I was tossing and turning between this and the Canon T4i and finally settled on it after lots of research and reading lots of reviews. What I liked most was how small and portable it is, and reviews seem to point to better image quality compared to the Canon, no anti-aliasing filter, and better low-light performance. I liked that it has built-in WiFi and GPS. What I really struggled with the most was that I didn't want to give up the touchscreen on the Canon, which I really would have liked to have on this camera. Overall, I was very happy with my decision and took a lot of photos. I find the battery life to be pretty decent - I have a few spares and always keep one handy. According to reviews, I bought a whale lens 18-140. I was pretty happy with it for a while but found I needed more coverage and ended up buying a 50-300 telephoto lens which I really like and found I was able to get much better closeups and detail than the one kit lens. My favorite outdoor photography is ducks, squirrels, birds and nature in general. The picture quality is outstanding. Colors are great and images are sharp and beautiful. Autofocus is fast and accurate, and even when zoomed in or heavily cropped, I'm still amazed at the results. I have arthritis and ergonomics are important to me. I love the look of this camera - it feels solid and well built, yet is lighter than many comparable models. The grip fits my hand perfectly and I can rotate this camera from the side just by holding the grip and it feels totally secure. I take it with me everywhere because it also fits easily in my purse. I had an issue with something that smelled like burnt rubber and the unit was quickly and easily replaced with Revain so it wasn't really a problem. I've had this camera for over a year now and I'm very happy with it. I'm not thrilled with the video, but I can't say I really gave it a chance. The internal focus noise is driving me nuts, but I've been told an external mic will mitigate this. The flash works well but I rarely use it as I prefer natural light. Hoping to get a flash but not in budget yet. I've found that if I go into the menu and change the flash compensation to -2 or -3, the images get a lot better. without looking so blurry. I ran into a few issues but there are a lot of things I need to learn so I don't know how much the camera is to blame and how much user error but sometimes I press the shutter button and nothing happens! It drives me crazy because I feel like there is a lot of light and why doesn't it take a picture?! I've also found that sometimes it happens because I'm too close and the focus can't lock, again meaning nothing happens when you press the shutter button. Like I said, I think most of this is due to user error or misconfiguration, so I'll just have to keep learning. Often I just switch to automatic and then I can take a picture. I think this camera refuses to take bad pictures! I will say that the auto mode works pretty well and I got some nice shots in auto mode. This camera goes beyond point-and-shoot, but if someone wants to use it that way, they'll be amazed at the results. I really want to fix the wifi connection issue which most reviews say is pretty grim. It will pair, load a few images, and then shut down. It's quite annoying because you've done everything the manual says and it just doesn't work. However, I am happy to report that there is a simple solution that I stumbled across while searching the web and it works great. You must first enable Airplane mode on your phone and then enable WiFi. It's not covered in Nikon's instructions, but it works fully and the Wi-Fi connects great and stays connected for as long as you need it. I didn't try GPS because of the negative reviews. They all seem to suggest that this is basically useless and drains a lot of battery. I haven't tried it and probably won't, so you're on your own. I think overall this camera is quite comfortable to use. One thing I really like is that Nikon has this handy little dandy? very useful button. Clicking on it will bring up a mini guide to the features you are currently playing around with. I found it really very helpful and it's amazing for a beginner to be able to get an explanation right away without having to go through the menu or look anything up in the manual. The rest of the buttons feel well-placed and, for the most part, easy to learn. The only issue with the button placement is that I often hold the camera so that my right thumb hits the right trackball arrow and causes the focus point to move to the right. I do this all the time and it's very annoying. Just pressing the center of the trackball and bringing the focus point back to the center is enough, but it's frustrating how often this happens. The auto timer/burst/remote shutter button is a little hard to find as it's hidden in an obscure spot on the left side of the bezel, but I'm always quicker to find it when I need it. I can say that I am very satisfied with the picture quality and color reproduction as well as the ease of use and handling. I don't have enough experience to make meaningful comparisons, but I think this is the best camera I've ever had and the more I learn, the more I like it. I think this is a great camera for beginners, although it might be overkill for a beginner. Perhaps the d3300 would be a wiser choice as it's a lot cheaper and a bit lighter. Both have the same 24.2MP 23.5 x 15.6mm APS-C sensor and Expeed 4 processor. I like the vari-angle screen on this camera, which the d3300 doesn't have. The D3300 has in-camera panorama stitching, which I think would be great, but Nikon missed it on this camera. Of course it can be done by post, but I would still like to have it in front of the camera. There are a number of creative modes that could be fun, but I haven't played with them so I can't comment on them. I saw a video recorded in "toy" mode which was pretty cute so might give it a try. I have to say that despite my limited experience I am very happy with the beautiful pictures I took with this amazing camera. . The quality is superior to any camera I've used in the past and being able to capture something beautiful to enjoy and share is the main reason for that after all. Now I intend to always be an amateur who just wants to capture the best shots of life as I see it and this camera has proven to be a good partner in that endeavor. I am very happy with my decision to purchase this camera and am very happy with Revain's customer service and advertising funding. I expect to enjoy this camera for many years to come and would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn digital photography. I only wish it had a touchscreen!
