Budget alternative to Ninja

I usually buy the Ninja tank for airgun projects, but now it costs up to $70 so I decided to get one of these for testing to order. The first impression is good. I completely disassembled and inspected the controller. It uses a Belleville spring pack (0.024 inch thick shims) and is set at 825 psi. A certain jump in pressure was evident. The pressure rises very quickly to 750, and then it takes several minutes to rise to 825 and stabilize. Upon inspection of the valve seat, the plastic seal revealed a series of concentric rings that affected its ability to seal quickly. I sanded it smooth with 400->600->1200->2000 wet/dry grit. Now it calms down in just a few seconds. The tank has the required DOT certification. I didn't like the flashy white print so I took care of that with some matte black spray paint. Build quality is pretty good. Foster fittings have a better surface finish than Ninja fittings and come with a rubber dust cap. Shame on Ninja for still having that horrible loose cap destined to be lost. All in all, a good alternative to the more expensive versions, especially if you're willing to slip on the valve seat for a few minutes to get rid of the pressure surge. .

Pros
  • 800psi output (adjustable with optional HPA regulator)
Cons
  • Negative gift
