Review on CableMod E-Series Pro ModMesh Sleeved Cable Kit For EVGA G5 / G3 / G2 / P2 / T2 (Black) by Michael Ward

A broken wire, 18 AWG too thin, insulation too thick, standard combs won't fit

One of the split wires on the 24-pin connector had a deep scratch that went completely through the braid. But it is on the PSU side and will not be visible. But that shouldn't happen with a "premium" product. Probably RMA worthy, but I discovered this late and have already started modifying the cables. (Changed to white connectors instead of black to match my build theme and broke all the combs.) It's advertised as "Brand new thicker wires for a fuller look" but I find that misleading because they're 18 gauge -Use standard (AWG). instead of the higher quality 16 gauge. It is highly recommended to use 16 gauge for high power devices (e.g. 1000W and above) on 24 pin (some wires may be thinner), 4/8 pin EPS and VGA cables . The only thing thicker about this product is the "insulation" of the wire, which is quite awkward compared to the copper itself. (I cut some off to find out.) But I think this allows for a thicker cable that looks more aesthetically pleasing, but it also loses compatibility with most cable combs. I had to try several brands of combs to choose the one I liked and liked. In addition, the cable thickness is normalized for Molex and SATA cables. I think it's 18 gauge too, but with much thinner insulation. Although they might even be 20 gauge, it's hard to tell. It's definitely enough for them. It should be noted, however, that the size of the cable comb should ideally correspond to the thickness. So ideally you need two combs of different sizes, which is cumbersome. I have a small box of cable combs of various sizes and colors to choose from - most people don't have these. with pliers as the comb holes will not fit more than half of the crimp terminals. I went with the Asiahorse combs which look very high quality because they are precision engineered and made from very hard plastic (I just wish they didn't have the branding/logo on them).
