These trays worked like a dream. I got them in the mail and put them straight into the dishwasher. After they dried I filled them with water and put them in the freezer. A few days later I popped them out of their molds into an ice basket and it was great. A little different than rolling ice cubes out of old bowls as a kid, but they're good hard cubes. I used them to cool water and immediately noticed a white floating residue. After checking the product website again, I realized I missed the part about cooking for 15 minutes before using. Thank God we didn't drink that crap! I emptied other bowls (I bought a few based on the good reviews) and it was the same white flaky sediment. I submerged all the bowls and lids in boiling water for 20 minutes. Then he pulled them out, put them in soapy water and rubbed each compartment with a sponge. Washed and then dried. Filled again, frozen for two days, and the result is exactly the same. Now I'm confused. I'll boil them again, then froth, rinse and dry and see what happens. I am very skeptical of other reviews when so few people have mentioned this! I rarely leave reviews, but that's something people should be aware of. If the second boil doesn't work, I go back to the old ice cube trays.
