It was the only way this thing could hold more than 30 pounds. This is when you place your items on the frame or on the edge of the top where they indicate that the monitor should be attached. Otherwise it simply bends and the box does not open. So unless you put a board or flat piece of metal on it I'm not sure how that will ever hold the monitor up. Wouldn't recommend it
