Grandson is 10 years old. He gets distracted at times, even for a 10 year old. old. But he was intrigued by this set. The details are solid. The overall design and production is top notch. As advertised, there are many, many projects to do. Everything starts simple, allows you to achieve simple achievements. And it builds up the complexity pretty well. There is a great multi-page description of "Light" although I didn't really go into it as it just seemed more important to me to be successful in multiple projects. Saucer HIGH. It bounced off the basement ceiling and got stuck in the air duct. So we had to restore it. It's pretty impressive from the outside. In any case, he was actually able to do the entire "BIG Project" on his own (which is actually pretty early in the line of projects). I was surprised. I give 4 stars for "gift free" and "easy to assemble". Both, because in the early stages it takes a little help from adults to think about how to get the project off the ground. For example: Which parts will be at a lower level than other parts? How to think where to start? Sometimes there is no right or wrong answer, but allowing an adult some time upfront can help overall success.
