I have used this product in several different ways, including using it to record an entire wedding ceremony with all of the guests' cellphones (and their own cameras).

It works well as long as you know what you're doing! There were many times when my microphone would not pick up sound from any direction other than straight ahead or directly above me. This is something that can be worked out over time if you are willing to invest some time learning about how best to use your mic. The main benefit we realized was being able to capture every moment of our daughter's wedding day.
