This 4 oz Hancy quilted rug with chalk powder, white, works great for my purposes. I have used a chalk roller when sewing for many years, but have never used a padded rug. But now I make masks every day and cut several layers of fabric at once. I use thick cardboard, a pattern and draw it around the fabric with a chalk pencil or ballpoint pen. When I saw this I thought it could make the process much quicker and easier and it really is. It's basically a flat plastic container, open at the bottom and covered with artificial sheep's wool. There is a hole in the top that you fill with the included chalk powder. The chalk stays on the surface for a long time, which is much faster than tracing the pattern by hand. Subsequent chalk fills take less time.
