A Pretty Bad Pair of Salt and Pepper Mills

I have to rate these beautiful medium oak Salt and Pepper Mills as average or less than average for two reasons. There is not much difference between fine and coarse grit in both the salt and pepper mills. The instructions say to turn the round ribs one way for coarse grains and the other way for fine grains. Another problem I've found with these grinders is that twisting it either way will loosen the small piece of metal on the top of each grinder (hereafter referred to as the "bolt"), which on these grinders simply holds the oak wood keeps grinder top in place. Since we are told to turn left for one size bean at the top and turn right for the opposite size, after a few turns the screw that is only used to hold the oaken lid on the grinder body will loosen. For most, if not all, of these S&P grinders, the coarse or fine grit is determined by how far the screw is turned counterclockwise, or rather how loose the screw is. In other words, the harder you tighten the screw, the grain is the same size, and the looser you tighten the screw, the opposite grain is formed. With my previous S&P grinders, the tighter the screw, the finer the grind. With another coffee grinder I know of, however, it was surprisingly the other way around. The tighter the screw was tightened, the coarser the grain formed. With this set of S&P grinders, however, it's easy to turn the top left and right a few times to select the grind size, but at the same time, unfortunately, those left-right turns loosen the screw and therefore the top of the oak grinder a lot that grain size selection doesn't work at all. But more important than those two issues is that when I tighten the screw and turn the top left or right, I don't get the promised different grit. I only get a fine powdered form of salt and pepper. I think salt is ok, but I like my pepper at least a little coarse. I understand everyone gets what they pay for and they are very cheap but I was hoping they might work to some extent. They didn't. I can't rate the durability of grinders simply because I can't predict the future and doubt I'll have them long enough to say.
