A lot to like (and dislike) about the Apple Studio Display

Apple is finally back in the display market with a product where 5k doesn't describe the price. Introducing the Apple Studio Display 5k monitor. I bought the base model with the standard glass and tilt stand. Overall, it's a really great display, but it's not without its flaws. Good ad. First, let's start with the most important aspect of the Apple Studio Display - the display! Those of you who have owned or used a 27-inch iMac will be pleased to note that quality is of course retained. relatively) reasonable price. Yes, yes, it's still a $1,500 display. But it's a good ad. If you are looking for 5k you can't beat it. Loudspeakers in the studio display. Having recently upgraded to a 2021 MacBook Pro 14-inch M1 Pro, I was completely blown away by the quality of the speakers in the laptop. So maybe you should have expected a pretty impressive upgrade to Studio Display. But the difference is amazing. I replaced my 27" iMac with an Apple Studio Display connected to my M1 Mac Mini. The Studio Display's speakers are noticeably better. I wish I had a way to accurately capture the improvement with video, but no, it's just better live Simple Build: Yes, Studio Display implements Apple's tried and true "Form over Function" mentality, the build is still pretty good. I've used the LG Ultrafine 5k display a bit in the past. , I will say the build quality alone leans me towards the apple display and not the lg display the lg shakes like crazy especially when typing while the anodized aluminum body of the apple studio display is solid and rigid NO MOVEMENT Other: A A few other things i like is that the studio display can charge my macbook while i'm connected to it pretty decent there are no features to fiddle with Apple products are simply plug and play. overall thin, although to be honest I was expecting it to be a bit thinner. Poorly. Power cable: The power cable is firmly connected to the device. Without removing it. I don't mind because my display stays in place for the whole life (when I don't move) But it's still stupid Stand/Mounting: Okay, this really annoys me to no end, this is a 1500€ display and do I have to pay more for the height adjustment? You'd think for $1500 I could move the screen up and down. Oh! And you also have to decide in advance as the different options are not interchangeable. Only use the tilt adjustment with the thought that you might be adding height adjustment as an afterthought, that could get expensive, but on my iPhones e, iPad and MacBook Pro ALL have a 120Hz refresh rate, a 60Hz refresh rate on the Apple Studio Display can be annoying. Webcam: Yes, I don't know. It's not bad, but for a $1,500 display, the webcam could certainly be better. I don't need this feature so I don't care, but for many it's important and problematic. Yes, Apple says it's a software issue and a fix is coming soon, but we'll see. In general, when editing photos with Lightroom and Photoshop, I mainly deal with static images. I also make music that doesn't require a high refresh rate or even a very good screen. But for my photos I need the 5k display. It's an expensive display, but I'll have it for a very long time, and it's high quality, although it lacks a few key features that would take it to the next level (and Apple would charge $2,500 for it, too). If you just surf the web or watch videos, you don't need this. If you are a pro and need 5k I would spend a few hundred bucks more and buy Studio Display instead of LG.
