This is one of the few surge protected USB wall plugs that uses a BOTTOM output. Almost all other species use the upper exit. Why is it important? Each bedroom on the top floor of my home is wired so that the top plug in each outlet is connected to the room switch. When you plug in the top outlet, the switch turns it off. Not ideal for USB charging or other things you want to carry with you at all times. By turning one of these on, I get two outlets and a USB in an unobtrusive space that's not connected to the room switch. It works great for me.
