Black version has a satin, slightly textured finish that pairs well with unpainted fenders. I find this creates a softer, more pleasing contrast to my red grille than gloss black. The rings appear to be well made and although they are plastic they should be strong enough in a sheltered location. Once scratched by a rock, the plastic will be evenly colored across the entire surface, making the damage much less obvious than with a painted grate. There are no instructions, but installation is easy with three locking tabs. Easy alignment if you look for a small headlight adjustment notch on the inside of the ring and line it up with the adjustment notch on the grille. If all three tabs are properly aligned, the fit is excellent, and if they are not, all three tabs are not latched. Easily flipped over by removing the grill or tilting the top forward to reveal the locking tabs on the back. Overall excellent value for such a nice visual enhancement.
