Review on πŸ“ž Panasonic KX-TGE243B DECT 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System - 3 Handsets, Black – Reviews & Best Price by Lorri Ciccio

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice improvement over my 6 year old model.

Second purchase of Panasonic DECT 6 cordless phones with 5 handsets. The first set (KX-TG6445) was purchased 6 years ago in the summer of 2009. Back then, DECT 6 was a newer technology. I will compare the 2. First, I'll start with what I like best about the older set. The old device had a phone that was an upgraded model of four others. It also included 1 white phone. Older phones have a more natural sound for both calls and voice caller ID in my opinion. My new KX-TGE245 sounds good but I find it odd that it sounds more mechanical than phones over 6 years old. I was expecting an improvement in that area and that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. The older model has a slightly larger display, although the older generation phones are significantly smaller. At first I thought that the battery life is much worse on newer phones because the battery indicator dropped to a bar in no time. The old phone sat idle for a few days before the battery indicator dropped to 1 bar, unless of course the phone was used for a long time. I thought the problem was that Panasonic only included 400mAh batteries. So I bought the supposedly best Panasonic eneloop 800 mAh batteries. I put new batteries in and let them charge overnight before using the phones. I took them off the charger in the morning and the next morning they were back down to 1 bar including unused phones. I was very disappointed, especially after spending $20 on new batteries. I decided to just leave them without chargers and see how they perform before they run out completely. A few days later, they were still being charged. So I can only assume that the problem is with the battery indicator. Even with a single bar displayed, there is still a lot of energy left. Improvements in the new model. The buttons on the phone are three times the size of the older model. That's why the screen is a bit smaller, but I always go for the big buttons. The new phone is bigger and feels better, but I have boxing gloves for my hands. The keys are big enough and spaced enough that I don't have to worry about hitting the wrong key. I like the volume control on the side of the phone. I can change the volume without taking the phone off my ear. 250 number call blocking is another great feature. Despite being on the do not call list, we receive multiple annoying sales calls every day, mostly from the same people. The numbers we added to the list are blocked. The problem is that some of those callers just change numbers and start harassing us again, but at least we're getting a lot fewer calls. The disadvantage of blocking calls is that you have to take too many steps to block a call. It should be easier. With the new model, you can store 100 entries in the phone book, twice as many as the previous model. With the old phone, when we needed to add a new number, we often had to decide whose number to remove. Another cool feature is that you can give each phone a name instead of just a number like our old phones. This makes it much easier to figure out which phone goes where. My wife somehow manages to have 3 or 4 phones in one place. After 6 years my old phones still work like new but they look a bit beat up. The only problem I had was that the white phone stopped working after about 3 months. I sent it to Panasonic for repair under warranty and instead of a repair they sent me a refurbished black phone. I hope these new phones last at least 6 years too.
