Good pedals in cycling

In the spring I bought a new bike and tried out a few different pedals. First, I've had several Shimano SPD pedals over the years that had a cage on one side and SPD clips on the other. I gave my bike to my son and decided to replace it with new wider MTB pedals because Shimano is quite narrow. So I bought a pair of cool red composite pedals that I liked the width and feel but not the color so I mounted them on my son's bike and bought these. I love the colour, I love the look but they are on my bike and I feel great riding them too. I mostly commute to work, but I also try longer leisure trips. I still have the SPD and I'll probably wear them for a long ride but for now I'll leave them because they feel great and as I said are a lot wider. The only thing that worries me are the studs. . The composite pedals I bought for my son are quite sharp, they feel less sharp, but even yesterday when I was working with them they ripped the skin off my wrist. There is no blood but I could see a bad fall with scratches or cuts. I'm pretty sure it's similar to other MTB pedals. I've had Shimanos for so long they are a little different but they seem worth it for the width and grip.
