I've stretched them horizontally across my cyclone fence with my concrete walkway running along it. The light emitted is placed 5 feet above the ground to illuminate the path. I could take another one so that one string is down the fence line and the other is up for effect, but the second isn't needed for lighting, one will do. I leave the device on all the time and every night my walkway lights up all night and charges the next day. The light thread was strong enough to pass through the links, sometimes twisting but never breaking. Pretty good light length for the price.
