I first came across Folkmanis dolls while shopping while waiting at Jackson Hole Airport. I was impressed by the quality but even more by the special personality that each animal has. I have now bought three as gifts and they have all been lovely. Folkmanis is excellent at showing different textures to the eye: soft, fluffy, spiky, leather and so on. All of them are soft to the touch. Don't worry about calling them "dolls" if you really want a quality stuffed animal. While they certainly work well as hand puppets, Folkmanis' body construction is layered and they hold their shape very well on their own. This chimpanzee is particularly good as a collectible, as its sitting position hides a hole for one hand. Of course, he also works like a puppet. As mentioned in another review here, a reasonably skilled person can move both arms, head, and mouth. I have pretty big hands and I could do this. A student-age lady who received this gift was also able to move both arms and her head. I expected great products from Folkmanis and this baby chimpanzee certainly lives up to those high expectations.
