Incredible versatility, great adjustments (although not dimmable with a light switch)

Bought two of these to replace lightbulbs in ceiling glasses above my plasma TV on the wall. The idea was to black out the area around the TV while keeping the rest of the light in the room on (it's an old plasma... works best in low light these days). Works great! I like the hubless idea. And what was very surprising was how versatile these things are. With the app and Alexa (which works really well by the way) you can dim the lightbulbs, change their temperature, and even change their color. Also, you can create groups (mine is "TV Lights") to control different groups of lights. Additionally, you can set up "Themes," so you can name a theme, add a group or groups of lights to that theme, and then use Alexa to simply say that name and turn the light on and off with the set brightness, temperature, and color. It's amazing - the lightbulbs are brought to their logical and complete completion. The only problem I've found is that you can't dim them via the wall switch - they start stuttering and blinking. You have to dim them in the app or with Alexa. Since I mixed the "dumb" LEDs with these new nifty bulbs, I have to use the switch dimmer to dim the "dumb" bulbs, causing the smart bulbs to stutter/blink. It's totally workable, but if they could dim with a non-flashing switch, they'd be perfectly perfect (instead, they're only 99.9% perfect). At around $15 each, I'm thinking of just making all the bulbs in the room, but that's a lot of cost relatively speaking (I'd have to get 4 more, so that's another $60 to make the otherwise just fine existing LEDs ). Lamps that are probably at least a decade old, if not two decades old) - they really don't burn out, they don't need to be replaced in six years!) In general this is fantastic, really well thought out.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No power
