This is really amazing for your hair. I have a really good Black Friday deal and I still need new pillowcases so I thought why not silk? After some research, I settled on this pillowcase as the best combination of price and quality. It was great for my hair. Until I bought it, I didn't realize how much my hair had been damaged by the bedding. Silk pillowcases don't magically prevent frizz and tangles in your headboard, they prevent tangles in your hair. Imagine: Rubbing a length of rope between two pieces of Charmeuse silk will get the rope tangled but not fluffy or frizzy. This is an advantage for your hair. Warning: KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING. Silk, any silk, gets dirty easily. Natural fibers take color-changing substances well, but cotton takes hell to be washed and bleached. You can't with linen and REALLY can't with silk, especially if you want to keep the texture. Just like human hair, light color bleeds with washing. With man-made materials like polyester, the dye is chemically bonded to the threads, so if you make your own you will need to purchase a special dye. If you were to do this with silk it would ruin the fibers. Finally, natural fibers breathe more easily than synthetics of similar weave density (I think people who complain about this are actually reacting to their pillow, not the case), but they're better at keeping bacteria out. Wash bedclothes more often, otherwise you will get pimples. I know silk lingerie and the texture quirks that can occur. I'm also lazy and don't like to wash my hands. I wash pillowcases inside out (i.e. smooth surfaces only touch each other) on delicates, warm/cold or cold/cold, if possible do not spin, otherwise spin little. Spin is more important than heat to maintain texture/fiber integrity (not only does it feel like you're washing wool hot, you're rubbing it vigorously). Heat affects shape/weave formation, causing clothing to shrink or lose shape in hot water. If this load contains other garments, I put the cases in a bag of extra fine mesh that I also use for handknit lace (still inside out). I squeeze the moisture out with a towel, then lay it out or hang it on clothespins to dry. It is best to lay on a ventilated surface. This may all sound complicated, but it boils down to machine washing and drying flat. DO NOT use fabric softener, it just coats or damages the fibers like a hair straightener. Use enzyme-based detergents. If the pillowcase feels sticky/stiff, you obviously haven't washed out the soap. This can happen if you avoid excitement. Just give it a quick wash in the sink and then dry it again.
