Review on Smart-US Solar Hand-Cranked Power Radio with LED Flashlights, Siren, FM/AM for Hunting, Camping, Hiking, and Emergency Preparedness by Dan Brickley

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice compact device, but poor selectivity on AM bothers me a bit.

Poor AM selectivity, no 50 kHz coverage for AM between 640 and 690 kHz. I understand the lowest common denominator, but basic AM selectivity with DSP should no longer be an issue as it has been 16 years since DSP was introduced and more than enough time to correct most if not all of the shortcomings in DSP tuning systems remedy. If it had better weak signal selectivity it would be a passable radio, although it does pick up in stations it's not particularly loud for the 500mAh internal battery, but at least it has a solar panel so you don't have to crank it endlessly Bring Get it running if you can keep it near daylight to keep it charged that way. If you don't need to tune into weak stations this should be sufficient for most applications, this model does not have NOAA coverage.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
