Review on ๐Ÿ”ง JDMSPEED Stainless Steel Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Kit for Grand Cherokee Wrangler 4.0L (1991-1999) Replace 33007072, 4883385 by Adam Hardy

Revainrating 4 out of 5

So far so good

When I realized that my 1999 4.0 TJ had two cracked manifolds, which I later found out were actually four, I expected to pay hundreds to have them replaced. I was happy to find this product, including the pads, for probably 1/5 the price you would pay anywhere else. After that, the welds looked better than I expected for the price. At least blue paint (a potential indicator of heat distortion for those of you who aren't mechanics). When first installing, I had trouble getting the bottom screws tight into the intake and exhaust ports. After some reconfiguration I installed the left/front side of the intake manifold over the guide pin and I *think* that fixed the problem of the manifolds not being flush. When I got to this place it was too dark to tell for sure. However, after running it for 20 minutes and driving 5 miles, there was no significant vacuum leak as one would expect from a misplaced manifold, so I assume everything is fine. I'll update if anything goes wrong later. A few notes: - Discard the supplied seal. I looked at it and realized it was garbage. Others have reported problems attaching to the guide pins. Buy a Fel-Pro for $20 at your local parts store. I had one with 200 miles on it as I had a head overhaul completed a few weeks ago but I still got a new one. You don't want to do that job again because you used a dubious cheap gasket. I also ditched the included screws and picked up some higher quality screws and fasteners from the ACE for a total of $6.00. This may not be necessary, but is an inexpensive extra precaution. - Loosely attach the manifold to the pipe with the ring plug provided, then follow the manifold bolt tightening sequence PRIOR to tightening the manifold bolts to the pipe. The manifold and tube must rotate to align properly. - After 200 miles, return to torque sequence and retighten all manifold bolts. I found mine, which was made 200 miles earlier after the head was salvaged, to be loose. This is to be expected given the numerous heating and cooling cycles. After re-tightening, they should be good. I'll update this review if the header breaks or fails for any other reason, but for now I'm happy. The four star rating is due to an inferior seal. If they had increased the price by $10 and added a Fel-Pro this would easily be a 5 star product.
