I have bought 3 packs of this item many times over the past 5 years. As an artist, my materials can get expensive, and I want to use each pencil as fully as possible, down to the last inch if I can. I prefer this design over the old fashioned wood and tin extension as it holds more securely. And allows the pin to be made even shorter while staying in place. No, they are not designed to hold a pencil in an electric or school pencil sharpener. To my knowledge, no extender does this. Take out the pencil, sharpen it to your liking (I prefer short cores - a Staedtler or Prismacolor manual sharpener) and then back into the extension. Although this is my first purchase from this particular seller I will repeat the same reviews as previous purchases. this item. It goes with everything I've put in it with the classic #2 yellow Mirado school pencils; Prismacolor (Premier, Col-Erase, Scholar, and Watercolor Pencils); Derwent (studio, watercolour, graphite); wood-free graphite pencils; and Sandford Turquoise pencils for sketching and drawing. With several random purchases, I have yet to receive one that doesn't work properly.
