The FZ1000 worked great until it broke. This was because the clearly visible ring inside the camera lens at telephoto came loose and folded back when retracted, preventing the lens from reaching its fully retracted position. This condition rendered the FZ1000 completely inoperable after thirteen months of ownership. I called a Panasonic repair shop in Texas to find out how much a lens replacement would cost and the rep I spoke to refused to tell me, arguing that the camera needed to be inspected before an estimate could be given can be created for the repair. Lens prices are well known and simply removing and replacing a lens in any case takes seconds - I sent the FZ1000 to the Panasonic McAllen Texas Service Center as instructed and received an email shortly after saying that the "Out of Warranty Fee" of 287.00 was due with no further explanation. When I called Panasonic to clarify, I was told that the company was willing to offer me two options: pay the fee or request a refund for the FZ1000. Also, the rep I spoke to wasn't willing to answer a single question. For example, is $287.00 included in the repair cost? How long does it take to change a lens? How much does a new or refurbished lens cost? I got nowhere Panasonic refused to speak to me until I paid $287. And that's despite the fact that the company had the FZ1000 I sent them. Panasonic asked for both money and the camera before giving me information other than what I already knew - I bought the camera with a defective lens. End of the story. I rate the FZ1000 as the worst camera purchase I've ever made; and Panasonic customer service as indifferent, apathetic and completely dismissive of my concerns as a customer. * I have forwarded my complaint to Revain and received a satisfactory refund.
