Waste of Money: Point and Shoot Digital Cameras

The FZ1000 worked great until it broke. This was because the clearly visible ring inside the camera lens at telephoto came loose and folded back when retracted, preventing the lens from reaching its fully retracted position. This condition rendered the FZ1000 completely inoperable after thirteen months of ownership. I called a Panasonic repair shop in Texas to find out how much a lens replacement would cost and the rep I spoke to refused to tell me, arguing that the camera needed to be…

If you choose between FZ1000 and FZ300, the choice is yours!

This camera is amazing! If this model had a larger touchscreen than the FZ300, a constant f/2.8 aperture, and weather protection, I would give it 6 stars instead of 5. For a mere $100 difference, I can't live forever. I can see why they don't combine that extra 300 features with a big 1000 image sensor for a PERFECT bridge. 300, suggesting it shows nicer bokeh and performs better in low light. It turned out that the bokeh produced by the 1000s at f/4 was just as beautiful... in some cases even…

I should have bought that first.

I love this camera. To give you an idea of where I'm from, I'm a very amateur photographer. I almost always shoot in auto mode and almost never edit anything other than cropping. Before that I had multiple cameras; I had a Canon G15 which was excellent but I wanted more zoom. Then I got the SX50 HS which was fantastic. I liked the zoom. But I decided I wanted to do better than the little SX50 sensor, so I bought a Best Buy D3300 kit for Christmas. It's a good camera, but I hate changing lenses…

Pros
  • Decent performance

  • Big and chunky

Impressive images from a compact superzoom!

If you're buying based on picture quality, the FZ1000 won't disappoint. I bought this to replace my existing travel camera and wanted something that was clearly an IQ upgrade. I shoot with a few other cameras, including the full-frame Canon 5DM3, but for travel I wanted something more compact, no interchangeable lenses, with a decent focal range and a wide range of features that a manual photographer would like. It also had to work with my non-TTL flashes and wireless triggers for my studio…

  • Great price
