I love this camera. To give you an idea of where I'm from, I'm a very amateur photographer. I almost always shoot in auto mode and almost never edit anything other than cropping. Before that I had multiple cameras; I had a Canon G15 which was excellent but I wanted more zoom. Then I got the SX50 HS which was fantastic. I liked the zoom. But I decided I wanted to do better than the little SX50 sensor, so I bought a Best Buy D3300 kit for Christmas. It's a good camera, but I hate changing lenses and lugging all that stuff around. Also (perhaps not important to many) there is no electronic level/digital horizon on the D3300, which frustrates me personally. I love to hike and having the SX50 gave me great peace of mind when I saw this level and knew my shots weren't going to go wrong. So I researched further and decided on the FZ1000. I went to the zoo and got a lot of great, clear photos. I'm so impressed I'm considering selling the D3300. It has almost everything I could ask for in a camera. Good sensor size, big zoom, lots of controls and options, HDR, panorama mode, excellent E-level, fast autofocus, fully rotating LCD and a good viewfinder. Manual focus is a bit clunky, but I appreciate the peak focus. I also briefly reviewed the Canon G3 X and the larger zoom range was pretty much the only thing I liked about it. It felt lousy in hand, didn't have a fully rotating LCD screen etc. Didn't like it at all, especially for the money. I think the only thing I would have wished for the FZ1000 was a little more range. , for shots of wildlife and the moon. If they could increase it to 600 or 700mm that would be perfect for me. But I still give it five stars because it's a great camera for the money and a great camera overall. it would be perfect for me. Enter the Sony RX10 Mark III with a 24-600mm lens of equivalent range. I bought it right after it was released and took it to the Jacksonville Zoo to try it out, taking over 500 shots. In the end, I came to the conclusion that despite its fantastic range, the FZ1000 is superior in some ways. I think Panasonic's autofocus is faster and I think its low-light performance is better; I had some issues in the darker reptile house, which never happened with the FZ1000. I also prefer Panasonic's fully articulated screen, and of course it's half the price. The range is excellent, but while not entirely critical, I still highly recommend the FZ1000. It's a damn good deal and I have no problem keeping the 5 star rating I originally gave it.
