I didn't have a small K-cup on hand so I grabbed good quality ground coffee and used the included Wowow pod holder with strainer. Here's the problem: after you put the coffee in the capsule holder, it must be fixed in a certain way, otherwise the machine will not start. This is inconvenient and difficult to achieve proper alignment with the grooves. It blocks with practice, but you must be very careful when using excessive force. Also make sure that the capsule holder is closed tightly. After locking and installing the carafe, press the power button and all 3 lights will flash. Wait about 40 seconds for the blinking to stop. Then click on the ground coffee selection or the K-Cup setting. Now the coffee will start brewing and after about 2 minutes the machine will make a ticking noise to let you know the coffee is ready. Another annoying feature is that you can only brew weak-tasting coffee. You cannot make strong coffee with the capsule holder because it is too small. I figured you could brew a small half cup of strong coffee and repeat the whole process to get a full cup. But what a waste of time. Coffee doesn't have to be difficult to make. The carafe has those annoying slits in the lid where you pour the coffee. So if you're not careful, he'll squirt out of your cup. You will have the same result if you decide to use a carafe to pour water into the coffee maker. The instructions are well written in large print with lots of illustrations for the instructions. If you don't care about strong drinks, small cup sizes and a lot of patience, you might want this machine to work.
